Why I Travel the World for Rock and Metal

Some people travel to see the world. I travel because there’s a band playing somewhere.

Well… that’s not entirely true. I do love discovering new places, but somehow, over the years, concerts and festivals have become my favorite excuse to get on a plane, board a ship, cross a country, or occasionally question my own life choices during a 7-hour train ride with 5 connections on the way.

Music has been part of my life since I was born, and after decades of concerts, festivals, backstage adventures and trips across the Americas and Europe, an old friend made me see that there is always a story in all of this. Not just the stories about the shows themselves, but everything around them: the cities, the people, the journeys, the unexpected moments, the places I would probably never have visited if there hadn’t been one of my favorite bands or artists playing somewhere there.

That is what this blog is about.

Here, I’ll share my experiences traveling for rock and metal (well… not only), from small concerts to legendary festivals, and the places I discover along the way. Some trips are carefully planned. Others involve questionable decisions, ridiculous distances and a surprising amount of bands T-shirts. Regardless of how, there will always be music, travel, memories and, hopefully, plenty of stories worth telling.

And what better way to begin than with another adventure at sea?

Next stop: the Full Metal Cruise

My first journey for this blog is coming very soon: the Full Metal Cruise XIII, the metal cruise connected to the Wacken world. And this will not be my first time aboard. I’ll be returning for my sixth and seventh Full Metal Cruise (in 4 years!), which probably says something about how much I enjoy the combination of heavy metal and traveling… in this case, simultaneously.

This year’s edition is particularly exciting because the cruise will take me to a few new places. The 2026 edition is divided into two parts, both departing from Palma de Mallorca aboard the Mein Schiff 6. The first route includes Barcelona (been there in 2019 for Rockfest and definitely don’t mind visiting again!) and Marseille, while the second heads to Palermo and Cagliari.

And when I get back, I’ll have plenty to write about: the concerts, the festival atmosphere, the ports, the cities, the ship, the music and all the little details that don’t necessarily make it into an itinerary.

Until then, you can watch some of the videos I recorded there since 2023, when Full Metal Cruise took us to awesome places like Norway, Sweden, Latvia and many more. Click here for my Full Metal Cruise playlist.
