Live music as a great reason to travel

This blog is where I bring the journey together: music, trips, places, people, bands and the stories in between

The idea of turning all these concert and travel adventures into stories actually came from an old school friend, Chicão. Back in fifth grade, he wasn’t entirely convinced that the tiny little girl I was could possibly be as passionate about rock and metal as I claimed to be.

Fast-forward 25 years, and when we met again, he was genuinely amazed by all the stories I had accumulated over the years: the concerts, the trips, the festivals, the crazy distances traveled, and everything that happened along the way. At the end of every conversation, he would look at me and say: “You need to write a book!”

Well, a book… maybe not. At least not yet. But this blog is my way of doing something pretty close to it, except that this version can keep growing, changing, and being updated in ways a physical book never could. So here it is: all those stories, journeys, concerts, and adventures, now online and available to anyone who wants to come along for the ride – just like my old friend Chicão!

Meet & Greet with Blind Guardian @ 70000 Tons of Metal

I’m Mônica, born and raised in São Paulo 🇧🇷. Music is my life since birth (Rita Lee was on the radio), thanks to my mother and her vynil collection.

I started attending concerts in early 90’s. First job at a fan club (yes, with an actual paycheck), then at Galeria do Rock, São Paulo’s legendary music mall, leading to freelance at concerts (box office, entrance, flyers, production, translation) and writing reviews for music websites.

From weekend trips in Brazil to metal cruises abroad, it took me 18 years to make it to Wacken Open Air. And after that, traveling ridiculous distances for festivals became completely normal.

My YouTube channel, E o Vento me Levou, is where I’ve been sharing my trips and shows so far. And if there’s a stage and motivation to get there (like a favorite band playing), chances are I’m already figuring out how to.

Sometimes it seems like I took the line “There’s nowhere to set my aim so I’m everywhere“ (Dream Theater, Space-dye vest) too seriously, but projects in Germany/Europe, in Brazil and online are always welcome – send me an email and we can talk about your ideas.
